Tips on
watching out for Work at Home Scams
#1 Rule - Never
Pay A Company To "Hire You" Directly!
The company should be paying you to work for them.
TIPS
If it sounds too
good to be true, it probably is!
You may see work at home ads
in the newspaper that may say something like this:
Work From Home - No Experience
Make $5000.00 A Week
Start Today!
Call (Phone Number)
This is a Work at Home Scam
most of the time. Put that Red Flag Up!!!
Another one that is popular is the
pyramid schemes!
This is where you pay a
registration fee for example $50.00. Then you are promised to make $600 a week. When you pay your $50.00 you then
find out that what they want you to do is place ads in newspapers or online for the same thing you signed up for.
So basically you are taking registration fees and then teaching them to do the same thing. Not only are these
Illegal! But, it is a SCAM not a
job!
If you wonder if a company
is a scam or not, check them out with the OBB - Online Business Bureau www.obb.com they specialize in Online Companies and
Flagging the Scams. A company does NOT have to be a member to receive complaints! If you
look up a company and they have a lot of complaints - be cautious!
Also, Google the Company Name! Change the phrase a few times. For example we will say ABC
Company.
Google Search:
ABC Company
Google Search: Is ABC Company a Scam
Google Search: Information about ABC
Company
Those are just a few ways to
put phrases into Google.
You need to know the
difference between “paying for a Job” and “paying for a Service”.
Even though you might run into a lot of “scam sites”; keep in mind
that there are also legitimate work-at- home
websites that offer a service for a fee.
This service might be teaching you a new skill with software tutorials,
courses, etc. The site might
list new work at home jobs into their database several times a week, etc. For these sites to keep the information
up-to-date they have to pay qualified staff to check out the jobs and then type up the job information on the
website. This takes time and
cost money.
Plus each website you see hosted on the Internet has
expenses. They pay for
hosting fees, advertising, website updates and much more.
With all of this said; keep in mind that you should never pay to get
hired! It is okay to pay for
a service if you have checked out the company and know it is a legitimate company offering the
service.
The fee should be reasonable.
Just remember the golden rule “if it sounds too good, it probably
is”.
